  • What Is Grey Iron?

Gray Iron is the oldest and most recognized type of cast iron. It has been produced in various forms for several thousand years. It is primarily composed of graphite flakes and either pearlite or ferrite or a combination of both. Other alloys or additives are often added to the mixture to impart specific properties to the Gray Iron.

What benefits do Grey Iron Castings provide?

There are a number of important benefits that the use of Gray Iron for casting provides. Gray Iron Castings can be:

    • Machined more easily
    • Used for damping or controlling vibration in wide range of applications
    • Formulated so their metallurgy meet specific applications' requirements
    • Used in applications that require dimensional stability
    • Used in applications that require high strength to weight ratios
    • Produced economically in high volumes using Disamatic equipment, and
    • Tested for quality using non-destructive methods
    • Designing a casting that are currently welded or assembled from several parts
What Information Your Need to Calculate the Costs And Provide the Quotation of Custom Castings?

If possible, we request you provide us with the following information to provide our offer:

    ✔ 2D drawings with dimension tolerances and/or 3D models

✔ The desired grade of the metals and alloys

    ✔ Mechanical properties

    ✔ Heat treatment (if any)

    ✔ Quality assurance expectations

✔ Special finishing requirements (if any)

✔ Tooling if required or existing

✔ Due date of quote response

    ✔ Packing details

✔ Application of the desired castings or machining parts

What Information Your Need to Calculate the Costs And Provide the Quotation of Custom Castings?

The casting prices surely will be affected by order quantity. The bigger quantity will get lower price. However, it is difficult to show it in calculator, because the quantity only affects the net profit, not real production cost. In other words, if the foundry is willing to reduce their profit to get bigger order, then they may reduce some price, however, if they are not willing to do so, then the price will be kept same. So, all in all, if your order quantity is not very small or very large, then the price will not be affected by order quantity.

"No min. order limitation" is meaning that we could produce small orders, however, clients must bear the cost of transportation. The small quantity will not be suitable for sea freight, so clients may want to use air freight or express couriers, so will cause high delivery cost.

Are there any other costs not reflected in the pricing calculators?

Yes, the pattern and machining fixture costs will be some extra costs. The patterns are the necessary tools for casting production. The clients must pay for the patterns in advance. If it will need machining, then there may be fixture costs.

The extra delivery cost has not be shown in the calculator, because it will depend on how you will deliver them. The transportation cost in calculator is only suitable for normal batch production, such as more than 1 tons each order.

The pricing calculators do not appear to be dependent on the quantity ordered and it states there is 'no minimum order limit'. Can you please clarify?
